Mama Mia church production in Ravenna

Picture this: a musical comprised of songs by a Swedish disco group in the 70s, singing songs in English, performed in Italian by a local church group in Ravenna, Italy. That’s what we saw this evening. And everyone sang the words to Mamma Mia! It was actually very cute, although, like the opera, we didn’t stay until the end. Ravenna feels a bit like a backwater, compared to Verona and Venice, but that makes it even more charming. And being here on a Sunday evening, we were the only non tourists. The other photos are the ceiling of an enoteca (wine bar) in Ravenna and Dante’s tomb. He spent nineteen years of his life here, after he was exiled, and wrote most of the Divine Comedy in Ravenna.
